Easing Into Veganism

So you’re thinking about transitioning into veganism?

Making the switch to veganism may seem daunting as it includes taking quite a few steps towards a drastic lifestyle change but following our easy guide on easing into veganism will make the process worry free!



1. Education and Information

Before making the lifestyle change, it is important to get educated on what veganism entails. This includes its benefits, how to remain well-nourished, learning how to read labels indicating whether your foods contain animal products or not, and locating some grocery stores in your area that are vegan friendly.



2. Your New Vegan Kitchen

Get your cookbooks ready with loads of vegan recipes as veganism often requires more planning and preparation for cooking. Begin your transition with one or two vegan meals per day! You can start identifying foods you regularly consume that can be vegan or made with vegan alternatives. For example, make your lunch purely vegan and soon begin to transition your dinner to be as well. Doing research on vegan recipes and familiarizing yourself with the plant-based diet will help ease your way into finding the perfect food for your new diet.


3. Ingredients To Look Out For

Here is a list of animals products to look out for—make sure your products DO NOT contain:

Casein – a milk protein.

Lactose – a milk sugar.

Whey – a milk by-product.

Collagen – from the skin, bones and connective tissues of animals such as cows, chickens, pigs and fish.

Keratin – from the skin, bones and connective tissues of animals such as cows, chickens, pigs and fish.

Gelatin – obtained by boiling skin, tendons, ligaments and/or bones and is usually from cows or pigs

Lard/tallow – animal fat.

Shellac – obtained from the bodies of the female scale insect tachardia lacca.

Honey – food for bees, made by bees.

Vitamin D3 – from fish-liver oil or sheep’s wool.


Incorporating foods such such as whole grains, beans, tofu, greens, and other plant-based foods will allow you to get in the swing of finding what’s comfortable for you. Once you get the hang of substituting your favorite foods with products that are vegan, you will find that there are plenty of ways to begin experimenting and finding what is tasteful for you.


4. Temptation

Having the fear that you will have non-vegan cravings while transitioning is completely normal. Fear no more! The amazing thing about veganism is that there are alternatives to all of your favorite foods that can be located at any grocery store with vegan products that will definitely satisfy your cravings.



5. Don’t give up!

Whatever you do, don’t give up! Remain constantly motivated and educated on the benefits of consuming non-animal products for yourself and the environment and, with the rise of veganism, there are plenty of documentaries and informative platforms (stay tuned on our blog for more!) that can motivate you during your journey.
